Now,generate and sell solar power in Amritsar,Ajitgarh

With the Centre having selected Amritsar and Ajitgarh for its Photovoltaic Solar Panel pilot project, residents in the two cities can now set-up solar panels atop their buildings

With the Centre having selected Amritsar and Ajitgarh (Mohali) for its Photovoltaic Solar Panel pilot project, residents in the two cities can now set-up solar panels atop their buildings, generate electricity, and sell it to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).

Sources said, under this initiative of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, residents can install solar panels on residential, commercial and other buildings and even use them for personal consumption.

“ There will be a two-way metre installed in the building where these solar panels are erected. One can either sell the generated power to PSPCL as the unit generating power will be linked to the grid. If one wants to consume the power during any time of the day,it can be bought back from the corporation at the same rate one has sold it to PSPCL,” an officer said.

Later, the whole cities will be covered. The Centre will pay the state government Rs 2.50 crore initially for each of these two cities in the state. The ministry for renewable energy will provide a 30 per cent grant for the setting up of these solar panels, while the rest of the amount will have to be borne by the individual.

Principal secretary, science and technology,Punjab,Karan Singh, said: “ We at present generate 10 mega watt of solar power and expect to increase it to 45 mega watts in the next three years”.
