During the recent outbreak of dengue fever in the city and peripheral areas, doctors at Prana — a homeopathic-yoga centre — who have been studying the dengue patients have claimed to derive a remedy, tabaccum, as the genus epidemicus for dengue. Patients at a city-based hospital in Pune have been given this remedy and have responded well to the treatment with rise in platelets count within 24 hours.
Dr Sunil Anand, president, Prana, said, "The dengue outbreak across Maharashtra in the past few months have become a cause for concern. Our team took upon themselves to come up with an alternative solution. They studied patients and based on both typical symptoms (rising fever, hemorrhages) and atypical symptoms (vertigo, feeling of suffocation etc) derived a remedy - tabaccum - as the genus epidemicus for dengue.
When the disease cause is very strong, it overwhelms the vitality of many people and affects them. This leads to an epidemic where large numbers of people develop the same symptoms simultaneously, said Anand in a statement issued here.
Prana, an initiative inspired by Bajaj Auto MD Rajiv Bajaj, is based on the theme that 'Prana' is the fundamental energy that flows continuously connecting and communicating with every single cell in our body thus keeping us alive and healthy. Various factors in our lifestyle or the environment can cause the energy circuits in our body to become compromised or weakened, leading to disease. The team at Prana, with the help of Homoeopathy and Yoga principles and techniques, helps patients re-establish the energy circuits and progress towards true healing.
In Pune, there have been as many as 729 cases of dengue this year with eight deaths.
Consulting physician at KEM hospital Dr Rajesh Gadia said the results of the homeopathy treatment would have to be tried on a much larger group to understand the efficacy.
