Five low-floor air-conditioned buses were flagged off at the UT Secretariat in Sector 9,by Home Secretary Ram Niwas on Tuesday. Inspector General of Police Pradip Shrivastava and UT Senior Superintendent of Police SS Srivastava were also present at the launch.
The new buses are equipped with door sensors, the control of which is with the driver. These will ensure that the bus does not move until a passenger is safely inside or outside the vehicle.
Niwas said,We hope that this adds to the convenience of the travellers. More buses will be added to the fleet by August 15. The buses are equipped with individual AC ducts which may be opened or closed as per the convenience of the passenger. The buses also have a special provision for wheelchairs to facilitate physically challenged and disabled persons. Boarding and alighting from the bus will be made convenient with the help of a folding platform.
The air curtains on the door will ensure that the inside of the vehicle remains dust-free. Electronic boards are installed on three sides of the bus which will give out information of the route. The buses come with a seating capacity of 32 persons with adequate space for nearly forty more to stand. Any malfunctioning in the vehicle will be highlighted on the dashboard of the bus.
