As parents cannot follow their child to the classroom and keep an eye on their performance, schools are providing the information at the click of a mouse.
All one has to do is simply log on to the schools website to get all the details. City schools are now increasingly making use of technology to keep parents abreast with the latest happenings on campus.
Schools like Delhi Public School,Strawberry World,Stepping Stones and Vivek High use the short messaging service (SMS) to provide vital information to parents like extension of vacations, change in school timings, schedule for parent-teacher meetings among others.
We have developed a mass texting system in the school which became operative from the 2009 academic session. This way,we are able to send information selectively as well as to a group of parents. The basic idea is to give updates on a regular basis rather than burdening parents with too much information once a month during parents teachers meetings, said Reema Dewan, principal of DPS.
Stepping Stones School also sends an intimation to parents in case a child is absent from school or on leave. Schools also frequently give feedback about performance of students, particularly Class X,XI and XII so that parents are aware and can take stock of the situation.
Text messages help in providing information which students are likely to hide from parents like declaration of results and PTM dates. The idea is to keep parents in the loop regarding their childs performance in school, said Anu Kumar, principal,Stepping Stones School,Sector 37.
Schools also upload worksheets and class assignments on the website daily so that students can avail it when absent.
Manav Mangal Smart School,as part of its parents as online partners motto, will be communicating with parents through e-mails.
Parents will be provided a user name and password so that they can access information like homework given to students, attendance record and other school circulars on a daily basis.
Parents can also send their feedback and queries to teachers,a communication of which would be automatically sent to the principal. Other information like marks obtained in examinations held throughout the year will also be made available through e-mails, said Sanjay Sardana, director of the school.
