A Unique innovation will now make it possible for Hindi scholars in any part of the world to study the Punjabi language better. Thanks to the scholars at Punjabi University, Patiala, who developed a mechanism allowing any Hindi website to be translated into Punjabi, the language will gain more accessibility.
The university has developed a web-based machine translation system providing a feature enabling the reading of Hindi content in Punjabi.
The Computer Science department developed the software last year along with a Punjabi search engine.
The software, experts feel, is bound to augment the Hindi-Punjabi translation community which has received immense encouragement due to the latest development.
The developer of the software, Vishal Goyal, a senior lecturer at the Department of Computer Science in Punjabi University says that the base of the concerned software is a large dictionary which is still in its first stage of development and needs further upgrading. “We have almost reached near 80 percent accuracy in our experiments in the past some time and expect to achieve 100 percent accuracy of Hindi to Punjabi conversion in a couple of months,” he stated.
Elaborating on the technology, Goyal revealed that the user only needs to put in the Hindi translation in the search engine of the software and the content would be translated in Punjabi in a span of few seconds.
“Moreover, there is a facility to send e-mails in Hindi and if the user wishes to send the same e-mail in Punjabi, that can also be done through an automatic translation by the software at the background while sending the mail,” he said.
