  • Going ahead with its Marathi-centric politics, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Saturday urged the Maharashtra State Roads Transport Corporation to issue electronic bus tickets in Marathi.

MNS Marathwada working president Satnamsingh Gulati said issuing tickets in Englishwas an insult to Marathi people. He said issuing bus tickets in English also violated a government resolution that directs the use of Marathi in government procedures.

An MNS delegation, led by Avinash Abhyankar— chief of the party’s state transport wing, had recently met MSRTC vice-chairman and managing director Omprakash Gupta in Mumbai.

The MSRTC officials said the electronic ticketing machines (ETMs) had been implemented on a pilot basis in 11 depots across the state.

Gupta said, “This is a pilot project and the system will be implemented across the state at a later stage. In fact, a few machines in Mumbai have already been equipped with the Marathi software.”
