Buyers who spent crores for flats in the Commonwealth Games Village are still waiting for possession, meanwhile,a demand has been raised in the Lok Sabha for preferential allotment of the housing units for Members of Parliament. The Games Village is under the scanner for violations by the builders, who allegedly exceeded floor area specifications. On Monday,Samajwadi Party member Shailender Kumar raised the demand for allotments of the flats to MPs,prompting Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath to seek instructions on the matter from the Speaker. After the matter was supported by a few other MPs,Speaker Meira Kumar said she would take up the matter with Nath and the other departments concerned. I will be glad to get directions on the matter from you,and would be happy to be of assistance to my colleagues here, Nath said. He said that,at present, there are no provisions for allotting flats to MPs. The government, however,is contemplating allotting some of the units to ministries for official use,he said. Earlier,as part of the debate on the The National Capital Territory of Delhi Laws (Special Provisions) Second Bill,2011,Nath had said the government is in the process of deciding the punishment against the builders found in violation of the norms. Had there been violations in only one tower,we could have sealed it and taken action. But the violations are in the entire footprint, all the flats exceed the area that had been mandated, Nath said. The minister said the government is planning to first auction 100 flats in the Village to decide on the market value of the property. Following this, the government could sell the flats to ministries like Finance and Home.
