Amid the ongoing war of words among political parties about BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi’s humble background as ‘tea seller’,a group of Modi’s fans with support of BJP leaders are holding tea parties in Uttar Pradesh to educate them how to communicate the achievements of Modi-led Gujarat government and development oriented vision of the BJP in public.
The tea party organisers have taken the idea from US where candidates before the elections hold such tea parties to interact with intellectuals and influential people of different sections of the society. Leaders of BJP,academicians, students of IITs,management institutions, medicos, legal experts and workers of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) too are attending these tea parties.
Five such tea parties have already held in Lucknow,Kanpur,Allahabad,Varanasi and Jhansi and others are proposed in Gorakhpur,Mathura,Agra,Delhi,Bangalore and Pune this month.
An Ahmedabad based Chartered Accountant Shailesh Tiwari who belongs to Faizabad district of UP is leading the campaign under the banner of ‘NaMo Tea Party’ – an organisation set up by him with other such ‘non-political’ professionals to hold the tea parties. The organisation has planned such tea parties in 200 cities across the country before the Lok Sabha elections.
The tea party in Lucknow was held recently at BJP state headquarters. A tea party held in Kanpur on Monday was attended by BJP state spokesperson Manoj Mishra and Vinay Tiwari who heads BJP’s state IT cell. Anil Tiwari who is convener of BJP’s IT cell for Awadh region was in-charge of that tea-party.
In these tea parties,we tell the people about the achievements of Modi led Gujarat government in the field of good governance and development. We are also telling people how to popularise the achievements of Modi government in public, Shailesh Tiwari said.
Shailesh denied any connection with BJP but admitted that he has met Modi several times and has already informed him about the tea party campaign. Modiji had appreciated the initiative, Tiwari said.
Shailesh also said BJP leaders were welcomed in the tea parties because they can communicate the message in public in better way than the professional who are active on social media. Sailesh said that his organisation has prepared a database of people who are active on social media from different districts and they were being invited in the tea parties.
He said that the idea of holding such tea parties got support when he read a survey report according to which a major population in 161 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country was frequent user of social media and their votes could prove ‘game changer’ in next elections.
BJP UP spokesperson Manoj Mishra who was guest in Kanpur tea party said, such tea parties will be organised in all 13 major cities of UP. Students and teachers of IIT-Kanpur and other local industrialists had also attended that meeting.
