Civic body was under criticism for demolishing illegal structures built by only small plot owners
Under criticism for demolishing illegal structures built by only small plot owners, the Mahesh Pathak-led PMC administration, for the first time, on Wednesday initiated action against three builders for constructing structures beyond the permissible limit.
During its demolition drive on Wednesday, the civic administration initiated action against three building complexes where the permission was for 11 floors while the builder had constructed two buildings with 15 floors and one with 17 floors. "It was found that the builder had constructed more than what was allowed. Therefore, we have urged the builder to pull down the extra floors to avert further PMC action," said Sahebrao Dandge, executive engineer.
He said the builder claimed that the excess construction was done considering that the amenity space would be handed over to PMC and TDR would be loaded along with. "We can accept that amenity space can be handed over to PMC later on, but there cannot be any construction on loading TDR in future," Dandge said.
In another action, the PMC demolished the ninth floor of a building in Koregaon Park as the permission was granted only for eight floors. The third action was taken in Dahanukar Colony in Kothrud where two floors of a six-storey building was demolished as the builder had got permission for only four floors.
The PMC has urged the developers and builders to get their excess structures legalised by submitting the documents of handing over amenity space or TDR, failing which the civic administration would initiate action.
Dandge appealed to citizens that they should verify the documents of building permission before purchasing any apartment in a building and should not rely merely on the layout. "Every structure needs to have a permission before construction which consists of details of the area of construction and floors," he added.
