The house of an IPS officer,currently posted out of Delhi,was allegedly burgled by unidentified assailants late on Thursday night in Timarpur area of North Delhi.
Sources said a weapon is suspected to be among the articles missing from the house.
The police said they were informed about the burglary by the domestic help,Vijay KC,who stays at the house of the former Deputy Commissioner of Police (Narcotics),Delhi Police,A S Cheema. Cheema was transferred to Mizoram in 2008 and is presently posted as the Superintendent of Police (Fire) Mizoram.
Police sources said they got a call on Friday morning from the help. He told us that he woke up in the morning and found the house (6/8,Lancer Road,Timarpur) ransacked and a lot of items missing.
An exact estimate of the stolen goods has not been arrived at yet as the police are waiting for Cheema to get back home from Escorts Hospital in the city,where he is presently undergoing treatment.
He had come to the city a few days ago for treatment. We are waiting for him to return home and give us a list of the missing items, police officers said.
Police sources added that while cartridges were found in the house,no weapon was found. We suspect that a weapon (pistol or revolver) has been taken from the house. SP Cheema will be able to confirm what all has been stolen. We are waiting for his statement before taking any further step, police sources added.
While Cheema was transferred to Mizoram last year,his family resides in Canada. Vijay was reportedly looking after the Delhi house.
A case has been registered at the Timarpur police station in this regard and further investigations are on.
It was during Cheemas tenure when former Indian cricketer Maninder Singh was arrested in connection with a drug case that came to light in 2007.
