In the busy Sarojini Nagar market, supporters wearing face masks of Vijender Gupta, the BJP candidate from New Delhi constituency, waited for the leader. Caps, scarves, pamphlets had already been distributed in anticipation of his visit.
Once there,Gupta wasted no time in launching an attack on the Congress.
Mein yahaan Congress ko benakaab karne aaya hoon. Unhone apne hatiyar dal diye hain. (I am here to unmask the Congress. They have already surrendered), he claimed.
The leader, who supporters affectionately call the dukandaar ka beta (shopkeepers son),took on the UPA government, calling them namard (impotent) for their handling of the incident in which Indian soldiers had been beheaded.
Jab Pakistan hame aankh dikha raha the,tab sarkar kya kar rahi thi? Humare sipahion ka sar kaat diya, tab unhone kya kiya? Unki mardangi kahaan gayi. Namard hain kya yeh? (when Pakistan was threatening us,what was the government doing? When our soldiers were beheaded, what did they do? What happened to their manhood. Are they impotent?) Gupta said.
He spoke on the defeatist attitude of the Congress in Delhi for already thinking of an alliance with Aam Aadmi Party.
Congress is not coming back to power. It is apparent. They are already talking of an alliance with the AAP. This has shown that behind the scenes, the Congress and the AAP are hand-in-glove. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit mentioned the possibility of an alliance with the AAP on Thursday, Gupta said.
Gupta, who will be challenging Dikshit in her stronghold, was referring to her comment during a CNN-IBN interview on Thursday where she was asked about a post-poll alliance with the AAP. I will not comment on this. I did not rule it out,I did not rule it in, Dikshit had said.
When it was pointed out that Dikshit had later issued a statement ruling out any such alliance,Gupta said,Sach zabaan par aa hi jaati hai (the truth eventually surfaces).
He called his rivals Dikshit and AAPs Arvind Kejriwal flying leaders and said he was the only one who could be seen in his constituency.
He took on each separately. His attack on Dikshit was on the 2010 Commonwealth Games. And he completely dismissed Kejriwal as a possible competitor. Who is he? Gupta said.
