The PMPML might not be having its own bus time table but city-based organisation CIO,set up under public-private partnership, has come up with Pune Transit,a computer application to help us find the PMPML bus we could take to reach our destination.
Developed in collaboration with Sadak Maps, the application also displays the buses that one can take within an hour from the estimated time of departure, said Anupam Saraph, chief information officer of CIO.
This is not any kind of GPRS,but is developed on the basis of data collected through survey process called crowd sourcing. Our volunteers, with the help of inputs received from regular commuters,PMPML drivers, conductors and traffic policemen, have generated the data. After logging in,when the person submits his/ her departure time and the destination, the buses plying on the route along with number of buses available within one hour from the time of departure are displayed, said Anupam Saraph of CIO.
The application can be accessed via weblink ciopune.in.
Operational from April 1,version one of the application displays over 375 routes with over a thousand buses. The second version that has recently been upgraded is more user friendly. For instance, the route is displayed once the user clicks on the destination. Now,even the bus stops are visible. Soon,we plan to update the application so that shops, schools, theatres around the bus stops are visible at the click of a button, he added.
It has been adopted from the originally American concept of generating Average Annual Daily Traffic Volume, said Saraph.
