In a shocking incident,74-year-old NRI Kulwant Singh was found murdered at his bungalow at Mahimasinghwala village on Friday morning. It is being apprehended that the victim had been murdered more than a week back and a friendly hand is being suspected in the murder.
Dehlon police station incharge Swarn Singh said,Kulwant Singh had come from England to his native village in February regarding a property dispute with his NRI brother Jaswant Singh. Jaswant is also a resident of UK but is living in Ghumar Mandi and the land in question is at Mahimasinghwala village.
On May 15,Kulwant had gone to the court for a hearing, but he missed the court hearing of May 20 and May 30. On May 30,his advocate called up Kulwants another NRI brother,Charanjeet Singh,in England and informed him that Kulwant failed to appear in court. However, when Charanjeet called Kulwant, his mobile was coming switched off. Later,Charanjeet called up village sarpanch Joginder Singh who went to the bungalow spread across about an acre land along with his brother Jaswant Singh and another relative.
The trio entered from the back gate and they suspected something fishy after smelling a foul smell from outside only, and they soon informed the police, the police officer said.
A smooth entry had been gained and near the spot of crime, four glasses and a bottle of liquor were lying which indicated that a few persons had drinks with him before murdering him. Things inside the house had been spread here and there but nothing was found missing which indicated that robbery was not the motive, the police officer added.
It is being apprehended that Kulwant was murdered before May 20 because he failed to appear in the court on that day and did not communicate with anyone after May 20.
Police sources indicated that someone known to him must have entered in a smooth manner inside the house and later Kulwant was murdered. Post-mortem of the body will be conducted on Saturday after the relatives of Kulwant arrive from the UK.
