A sessions court Friday rejected an application demanding further investigation in the murder case of NRI Pankaj Trivedi in 2006. Two witnesses had alleged that police didn't investigate the case properly and therefore a fresh probe into the case was required.
The court rejected the plea saying such application can't be entertained now as the chargesheet has already been filed. Besides, there is no locus standi of witnesses, Vinu Sanchaniya and Girish Joshi, in the case. However, according to advocate V D Gajjar, who represents the witnesses in the case, the court has also agreed that the police investigation has various lacuna.
"Although our application was rejected, the court has also paved the way to approach the High Court by agreeing that police didn't investigate the case properly. It also means that ultimately the accused will get away," Gajjar said.
The witnesses had alleged in the application that the police have been trying to shield the culprits.
Six years ago, Trivedi was beaten to death near Ellisbridge Gymkhana allegedly by the members of Swadhya Parivar, a religious group.
