National Security Adviser Shiv Shankar Menon called on Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday,a day before his visit to Sri Lanka,even as the island nation remained the point of attention inside the Tamil Nadu House for a second consecutive day. Menon met Jayalalithaa at her residence where she made clear her concerns about attacks on Tamil fishermen near Katchatheevu,and demanded retrieval of the rights that the fishermen from here enjoyed over the islet. Pointing out that there were differing reports on the number of Lankan Tamils affected by the war,those admitted in the government-run camps and those resettled,Jaya stressed the need for a correct picture about the post-war scenario two years after the conflict ended. Reiterating the demands made in the resolution she moved in the Assembly ,Jaya said all Tamil people living in camps should be resettled at the same places where they were residing before the war,and that the rights and facilities enjoyed by the Sinhalese population should be extended to the Lankan Tamils too. Menon assured the CM that he would convey the concerns to the Lankan government,and that he would meet her again on his way back. Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao is also part of the delegation leaving for Sri Lanka on Friday. On Thursday,the House adopted yet another resolution seeking the revenue department to implead as party in an earlier petition filed by Jaya against the controversial ceding of Katchatheevu islet in 1974.
