Over a month after complaints of indecent behaviour were filed against him,the National Students Union of India suspended its Mumbai chapter chief on Monday evening.
Suraj Singh Thakur,NSUIs Mumbai president,was suspended after a video footage emerged of him dancing shirtless at an official function of the organisation in Panvel. Thakur is also alleged to have forced others to remove their shirts. The NSUI is the students wing of the Congress.
Thakurs suspension was ordered by the NSUI leadership after the organisations members and faculty of the Jawaharlal Nehru Leadership Institute complained of his improper behaviour.
Thakur (25),whos been a member of the NSUI for seven years,was elected to the post in December last year. A student of Chandrabhan Sharma College in Powai,he is reportedly close to Congress leaders Kripa Shankar Singh and Arif Naseem Khan.
NSUI Mumbai president Suraj Thakur has been suspended on the grounds of indiscipline. The organisation wont tolerate any form of indiscipline; stringent actions will be taken, read the NSUI statement.
Around 89 elected members of the NSUI,along with Thakur,were asked to undergo a three-day workshop held at a hotel here. The workshop,held from March 13 to 15,was conducted by the JNLI faculty and focussed on political management skills,ideological orientation and personality development.
Those present at the workshop said that at the end of the second day the delegates were told by Thakur and his supporters that a party had been organised on the hotels terrace. When we went there,we saw 30-40 delegates,all drunk,were dancing without their shirts. Thakur was reportedly asking everyone to take off their shirts, said one of the participants of the workshop.
