A 5 MW solar photo-voltaic (PV) plant at NTPC Ltds Dadri thermal station has started commercial generation, marking the state-owned power majors first step towards renewable power generation.
NTPC plans to add 20 MW solar PV capacity during the next fiscal. With an estimated annual generation of 7.26 million units,this solar project,built at a cost of Rs 48.59 crore, is estimated to reduce the carbon emission by 0.82 MT/MWhr,according to company officials. The beneficiary of the project is Orissas GRIDCO Ltd. For setting up the solar PV project,27 Acres of total land (including 23 acre PV area) has been used within the premises of existing NTPCs Dadri plant. The design life of a solar PV plant is about 25 years. NTPCs total installed capacity is pegged at 40,674 MW.
