Number of dengue cases reaches 196,malaria sees decline

The total number of cases of dengue fever reported till date have reached 196,out of which 122 cases are from the city alone.

The total number of cases of dengue fever reported till date have reached 196,out of which 122 cases are from the city alone. Malaria cases have seen a declining trend this year as compared to last year,with 189 malaria cases reported upto September,2012 as compared to 348 during the corresponding period of last year.

In the wake of dengue season,the Malaria Wing of the Health Department,Chandigarh Administration,has geared up field activities for prevention and control of malaria and dengue. The department has started house-to-house surveys by the malaria workers to check the mosquito breeding in various sources i.e. coolers,containers,overhead tanks,underground houdies and water storage tanks. Fogging operations are also being carried out in affected areas specially in those areas from where the dengue cases are being reported.

Also,two rounds of DDT spray operations were commenced to eliminate adult mosquito breeding in villages and slums and health education for awareness of public by mega phone announcements and distribution of hand bills is also being carried out.

Cross checking is being conducted by the insect collectors under the supervision of entomologists to curb mosquito breeding. Also,notices under “Prevention & Control of Malaria,Dengue & JE Regulations” are being served to the defaulters who were creating mosquitogenic situation. 137 notices have been issued till September this year.

A special drive in Motor Market Manimajra was launched for intensification of field operations and educating the people for prevention and control of dengue.
