The men who murdered Sister Valsa John in Pakur,Jharkhand,were allegedly led by members of her own Rajmahal Pahar Bachao Andolan,the banner under which she had led a crusade against a mining company years earlier.
The murder followed after she had taken up the cause of a girl allegedly raped by one of these men,the police said,claiming to have solved the case after making seven arrests. The prime suspect,Adwin Murmu,25,the man accused in the rape case,was arrested on November 18,three days after the murder.
At least 30 others are still at large. Among them a few were Maoists hired by the suspects, said Pakur SP Amarnath Khanna.
