OB van goes up in flames at Bajwa coronation

“While the fire tenders were on the way,we managed to control the fire with the help of a water cannon stationed outside the bhawan”,the officer added.

A fire and emergency services officer said: “During the live broadcast of the installation ceremony,the generators inside Doordarshan’s OB Van overheated. This caused a short circuit and a subsequent fire. We got a call from police officials and by the time our fire tenders reached the spot,the police had controlled the situation to some extent.”

Two fire tenders took half an hour to control the fire.

Police officials said that the OB van was surrounded by nearly 20 cars which had to be immediately removed. The roads leading to the Punjab Congress Bhawan were also blocked for nearly half an hour to avoid any further damage.

“The van was surrounded by cars of Congress workers. We raised an alarm as the fire broke. There were many cars surrounding the van which could have caught fire and the situation could have worsened due to the fuel,” said a police constable.

Fire at plastic moulding unit

Another major fire broke out in Microteck,in Sector 2 of Parwanoo,at about 9 pm on Friday. Five water tenders took three hours to control the situation.

Fire officers stated that there has been an estimated loss of around three crores. Prima facie,the reason for the fire was an electric short circuit,said the fire officers.
