A rights watchdog has asked US President-elect Barack Obama to closely scrutinize the linkages of ‘pro-Hindu’ groups with communal forces in India.

Expressing concern over some Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and other outfits sending money to Hindu fundamentalist groups, the Coalition Against Genocide (CAG) on Sunday wrote a letter to Obama and called for closely scrutinizing their linkages to communal forces in India.

In the letter, CAG identified VHP America, India Development and Relief Fund and Ekal Vidyalaya as among the organisations funding fundamentalist bodies in India.

They claim to be independent of RSS and VHP in India but are connected with them and share their ideology and project partnerships, the letter added.

hindus are not communalBy: kiran | 20-Apr-2009 Reply | Forward the so called CAG should understand that no hindu groups are communal.RSS and VHP are organizations working for the upliftment of hindus.if the CAG hates communalism so much, then ask obama to ban the catholic church first
VHP and RSS should be Banned Globally By: Praveen Gupte | 15-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward It is no secret that the VHP and RSS remit funds from the US and Western Countries. These organisation must be banned globally - they seemed threatened by the spread of Christianity in India. South Asians in the US and the West must acknowledge thatthey have a good quality of life because of the Christian Values of the founding Fathers in the US ,Australia, New Zealand and Europe- Why do they have double standards and not want Indian to convert to a Christianity and live in an " Open Society" such as they enjoy.
Unnecessary reactions !By: vasu | 15-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward Communal and Fundamentalist groups,to whatever religion they belong, are dangerous forour country. It does not require too much intelligence to understand this.In spite of thisit is amazing to read the comments on your website on this news clipping. Why should any of us hindus react so strongly to this newsitem ?
"Fundamentalism is the root of evil"By: hiren | 13-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward 1) I don't think CAG is ever asked to investigate all the militant groups in Azad Kashmir and Pakistan. This inquiry is requested by some MUSLIMs who are living in US and filed a petition to look into issue.2) VHP RSS and other pro Hindu organization do not attack in Pakistan and so called "MUSLIM". 3) In the name of poverty Christain and Islamic organizations in India have found a way to convert lot of poor people to believe in their religion. Hinduism is never in favor of preaching and converting against anyone's belief.4) The churches should have not been burnt in Orissa, but an outrage was created by Christian organization. Whoever was involved in that violence should be prosecuted.Only one phrase defines the terror going on around the world. "Fundamentalism is the root of evil"
pro hindu groups r good peopleBy: kirit shah | 09-Dec-2008 Reply | Forward some ngo in america is trying to influence the president elect obama to distant from hindu organisations. obama will be well advised to see thru the designs of such articulate personals. hindu people r amongst the most humble and restraintful by nature unless provoked. hindu people r hard working, sensitive and god fearing. obama should met the people from rss or such groups who seem to be associated with hindus in india(hindustan) before coming to any adverse opinion on such groups.
