Principal secretary,Food and Civil Supplies,Baldev Singh has urged officials in the Public Distribution System (PDS) to maintain transparency and ensure that there is no shortage of supply to ration card holders.
In a review meeting at Council Hall on Thursday,he examined the public distribution system in Pune division Pune,Satara,Solapur,Kolhapur and Sangli. Those holding key positions in the department should not work as mere officers but as socially responsible citizens, he said.
The meeting was attended by divisional commissioner Dilip Band, collector Chandrakant Dalvi and deputy collector R K Gaikwad. Singh also said that it was necessary to speed up the drive to detect bogus ration cards. It is important that we have all details of ration card holders, the quantity taken from the ration shop and the name of the ration shop. All details should be available with the department so that there is complete transparency in the operations, said Singh in the meeting.
To curtail hoarding of foodgrains,he said a Geographical Positioning System (GPS) should be in place. He has directed the Food Corporation of India to keep the godown open on Saturdays and Sundays to lift foodgrain. He has also ensured that FCI will remain open till 5 pm instead of the 3.30 pm deadline to ensure good supply to fairprice shops both in city and the rural areas.
