Omar is endorsing right wing groups in Varun episode: PDP

The opposition PDP today expressed surprise over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s disapproval of slapping NSA against BJP leader Varun Gandhi, saying the NC leader was endorsing the stand of right-wing groups like RSS.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti said Abdullah’s remarks have exposed the “deceitful” politics of the National Conference (NC) leadership.

“While on one hand Abdullah is enjoying power in the state with the Congress,he is trying to keep his old friends in the BJP in good humour for a future alliance post-Lok Sabha polls,” she told party workers here.

“Abdullah by opposing NSA against Varun Gandhi was endorsing the stand of right-wing groups like RSS,Bajrang Dal and VHP on the issue.” Instead of shedding tears over the plight of Varun, the chief minister had to show the same concern for the hundreds of Kashmiri detenues booked under Public Safety Act (PSA),she demanded.

Reacting to Gandhi’s arrest,Abdullah had told a news channel yesterday,“It was a hate speech but it didn’t threaten national security. I am sure there are other rules and other laws that could have been used.” “If we weren’t in the the middle of an election season which tends to become a silly season, possibly this act (NSA) wouldn’t have been used. I have a feeling that the use of NSA is perhaps more political than actually legally required,” Abdullah had said yesterday. OMAR-PDP 2 LST On the chief minister’s handling of law and order in the state,Mehbooba said the recent release and instant arrest of separatist leader Shabir Ahmad Shah showed how special laws were being “misused” in the state.

Accusing him of spending more time on “political poaching” than delivering on governance front,Mehbooba said Abdullah should concentrate on mitigating the sufferings of the people, instead.

She wanted to know why the government failed to constitute ‘Truth and Reconciliation Commission on human rights violations’ and abide by other poll promises.
