The Face-Off between Anna Hazare and Suresh Jain took a new turn on Wednesday after the social crusader through his lawyer filed an application in a Pune court stating that Jain has been making defamatory statements against him despite the matter being subjudice.
Hazare counsel Milind Pawar said,Action may kindly be taken against the accused and non-bailable warrant may kindly be issued against him in the interest of justice.
The matter was fixed for recording of evidence, but was deferred till May 16 as both Hazare and Jain were absent. Jain is currently on bail in the defamation case filed by Hazare and is continuing to make defamatory statements in newspapers, Pawar said.
While advocate S K Jain, counsel for Jain, opposed the application, the court of judicial magistrate first class (anti-corruption) S S Bose took note of the application and directed Jain to be present in the court during the next hearing on May 16.
In 2003,Jain had addressed a news conference alleging Hazare himself was corrupt and that he had misappropriated funds in Sant Yadavbaba Trust Shikshan Prasarak Mandali. The government had set up a committee under the chairmanship of P B Sawant to look into the allegations. The committee submitted a report ruling out all the allegations. In 2003,Hazare filed a defamation suit against Jain in the Pune court under section 500 of IPC.
