On December 31, liquor shops to remain open till 1 am, bars 1.30 am

Even as the state government gave a ruling that liquor shops can operate till 5 am on December 31, district collector Vikas Deshmukh after discussions with Superintendent of Police (rural) and Police Commissioner has decided that shops will remain open only till 1 am and the bars having the requisite permits will be allowed to function till 1.30 am.

"The state government had issued an instruction that the district collector can take a decision on the timings of the liquor shops depending on the situation. We decided that we will not allow the liquor shops to open beyond 1 am,'' said the collector at a press meet on Friday.

The collector also instructed the respective hotels and pub owners to apply for the requisite permits before conducting events.

While the administration has permitted loudspeakers to operate till 12 pm, the collectorate has also put in place 17 squads to conduct checks in various parts of the city .

On Friday, the collector and resident deputy collector also briefed the event organisers about the rules to ensure the events are organised without violating any norms. "As many as 100 event organisers attended the meeting,'' said resident deputy collector Anil Pawar.

The collector said as of now 79 permissions have been sought from the entertainment department. People will have to carry their identity cards to enter the venues.

The district administration has also set up two control rooms this year and has urged people to call up on toll free number 18002333370 and Entertainment dept no 020-26138494 in case they want to register any complaint. An inquiry will be ordered into the complaint, said the collector.
