“One of the reasons why many are reluctant to use solar energy equipments is because they are costly and people don’t know what to do if they break down. “In order de-mystify the working of these instruments,we decided to conduct short-term workshops for those interested in their repairing and maintenance,” said Vinita Apte of TERRE. The workshops have been launched by TERRE along with Italy’s Centre Studio Galileo and Europe’s European Energy Centre.

The first workshop in this series was inaugurated on Thursday at Shahu College’s Namdeorao Audyogik Prashikshan Kendra in Parvati. Around 40 students of the college enrolled for the two-day workshop that will include repair and maintenance of solar lamps, solar heaters and so on. “Similar workshops of varied duration will be held by the organisation every month,” Apte said. Trained technicians from India and abroad will undertake the workshops. The fees for these would be between Rs 3,000 and Rs 20,000 depending on the duration of training, she added.
