Nano instrumentation technology to be focus for the future
“The future of inventions and technology at Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) would be bio-nanophotonics. As CSIO is actively involved in instrumentation, it plans to focus on nano instrumentation in various fields of health, agro-based industry, safety, strategic as well as human resource development.” This was announced at the inauguration of a three-day International Conference on Optics and Photonics (ICOP 2009) as part of the 51 st Foundation Day celebrations of CSIO.
Professor Samir K Brahmachari, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR, Government of India, inaugurated the conference and released the souvenir.
“CSIO, which has helped several industries develop, would aim at imbibing the latest technological developments in instrumentation. With the metamorphosis that CSIO is undergoing, there is a need to build the brand of CSIO and Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). For this, we need to be innovative and constantly evolve into an institution of its kind in the country,” said Dr Pawan Kapur, CSIO Director, while talking to Newsline. He emphasised not only technological innovations but also the development of human resources.
For this, the organisation has recently started a post graduation degree in engineering. The two-year course is equivalent to a MTech degree and the session commenced on September 8 this year. Further elaborating on the role of the private sector in technological development, Kapur added that CSIR would no longer be a entirely government body but invite private partners also.
“There could be phenomenal advances in instrumentation with the involvement of the private sector. The legacy of Pt Jawaharlal Nehru of building a scientific institution can be taken further by greater strides. It would be an excellent opportunity to showcase the investment aspirations of companies, which include investing in novel technologies that have potential to be developed into sustainable businesses and contribute in the growth of the national economy,” added Kapur.
