On peace mission,NRI lands in city

An Andhra Pradesh based NRI,Srinivas Alluri,on a bicycle world tour,reached Ludhiana on Tuesday and will proceed for Srinagar on Wednesday.

An Andhra Pradesh based NRI,Srinivas Alluri,on a bicycle world tour,reached Ludhiana on Tuesday and will proceed for Srinagar on Wednesday. Alluri is the founder of the voluntary and charitable organisation,Manavata. The cyclist says he used to pedal to stay fit before deciding to promote peace and the eco-friendly mode of transport. “I thought it was ideal to promote peace through cycling,” he says.

Alluri who owns a software company in the UK, began his 100-day tour on June 25 from London to New Delhi. “My company is being managed by sub-ordinates these days. The 100-day tour was till Delhi,but later I extended it till Srinagar. So far I have travelled 10,700 kms”,he adds. The cyclist has so far travelled through 13 countries – UK ,France,Belgium,Luxembourg,Germany,Austria,Slovakia,Hungary,Serbia,Macedonia,Greece,Turkey and Iran.

The objective of his endeavour is to inspire people to support humanitarian causes and lead a healthy,eco-friendly life. “ I have been organising local events and workshops in which message has been given to promote cycling,“ he says. In Ludhiana,Alluri promoted cycling in Dandi Swami Chowk and advocated against the use of plastic bags. “ My 100-day journey will be complete in Jammu,but still I want to travel till Srinagar”,Alluri says. He reached India on August 4.
