  • The proposed AMC-Medical Education Trust (AMC-MET) will now govern the service conditions of the doctors.

This might affect doctors in matters relating to payment of pension and other administrative works. Justifying this, vice-chairman of AMC-MET, Dr Kamlesh Patel, said, “Even the government is thinking on the lines of removing pension schemes.”

Already, services of 85 doctors have been moved to the AMC-MET. Their monthly salary bill comes to around Rs 15 lakh.

Although the AMC-MET service rules and regulations are yet to be framed,

Dr Patel said the new set of rules would be for new recruits, while the old ones would continue for the other fulltime staff members.

Asked if the consent of doctors was taken before changing their profile, he said they would have to follow the change, as there is no other option.

MET treasurer Dr Pankaj Patel said the change would spare the AMC from spending on non-obligatory functions like running a medical college. He said even the state government has formed a trust for a medical college to be started at the Sola Civil Hospital.

AMC’s deputy municipal commissioner and trust secretary Dilip Mahajan said there would be a common seniority list and that objections were being invited from the affected people.

He said the trust would follow government rules about other aspects.
