Women commuters will now have a seamless travel experience while switching trains to the Violet Line at the interchange in Central Secretariat.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has decided to modify the location of the women's coach on the Violet Line — Central Secretariat-Badarpur line.
On trains originating from Badarpur towards Central Secretariat, the last coach will be reserved for women commuters. For trains going from Central Secretariat to Badarpur, the coach will continue to be the first one.
"This step is being taken to ensure a 'Ladies in and ladies out' system. Women get to board and alight the women's only coaches in about the same location at the interchange station. This will help women passengers who otherwise faced difficulties in de-boarding at interchange stations like Central Secretariat," a DMRC spokesperson said.
The interchange at the Central Secretariat receives passengers from the Yellow Line — Jahangirpuri to Huda City Centre. According to Metro estimates, the yellow line receives one of the highest passenger footfall.
"We will make announcements on trains running on this route to inform passengers of the new system. Also, at stations, guards will be deployed on platforms to guide passengers during the initial period. Under the new arrangement, women passengers, while changing trains at Central Secretariat, will be able to directly enter the ladies' coach of the next train on the other platform. The DMRC is making all required arrangements to ensure smooth transition of this new arrangement, including proper positioning of the women's coach at the platform," the official said.
The modification in the positioning of the women's coach will come into effect from Saturday.
The provision of the first coach of every Metro train being reserved for women will continue unchanged on the rest of the lines of the Delhi Metro, the spokesperson said.
