A 22-year-old Nepali woman was allegedly gangraped by an autorickshaw driver and his friends in the Mandawli area of East Delhi. Police officers said the woman claimed she was brought from Nepal to the Capital with the promise of a job in Kuwait and later abandoned at the Delhi airport.

The victim, Neeti (name changed), told the police she was brought from Nepal last Thursday (July 2) by one Manoj (24). She was reportedly taken to her relative’s place in Mukherjee Nagar, and was told she would be sent to Kuwait on July 3 midnight.

“On the night of July 3, Manoj took her to the IGI Airport and told her that her flight would leave at midnight, after which he left. The woman, however, did not find her name in the list. She then took an autorickshaw from the airport, driven by one Vinod (24) and asked him to take her back to Mukherjee Nagar,” a senior police officer said.

The police said Vinod then took her to Mandawli in East Delhi after convincing her that he could get her a better job. He asked her to stay the night at his friend’s house in Seva Sadan in Mandawli, took her handbag that had her passport and some cash, and told her he would keep it for the night.

Inside the house, Vinod’s friend Avdeesh, another auto driver who was in an inebriated condition, apparently forced Neeti to drink. He then called a couple of his friends over and all three took turns to rape her.
