  • The battlelines are being drawn as the search for India’s next Permanent Representative to the United Nations heats up. Two high-profile IFS officers—India’s Ambassador to Brazil Hardeep Puri and Indian Ambassador to Germany Meera Shankar—are vying for the coveted post and they are deploying all the forces they have at their command. While Puri is known for his connections, both in the BJP and Congress, Shankar has her own network that has been carefully put together from the time she served in Rajiv Gandhi’s PMO as a director. The choice will be tough as one of the candidates is already in Delhi working the calendar and the phones. The post is slated to fall vacant in March.
