From an undisclosed location in New Delhi,Ali Al-Essawi is trying to ensure that the effort to change his countrys destiny has the full backing of the world.

The Libyan Ambassador to India who quit last month to protest against the violence unleashed on pro-democracy protesters by dictator Muammar Gaddafi,has been named head of foreign affairs of the rebel National Libyan Councils three-member crisis committee.

The council,based in Benghazi,has set up a three-member crisis committee for military and foreign affairs.

Al-Essawi,who has been here in India along with his wife and children since he quit on February 23,confirmed his appointment.

Speaking from an undisclosed location in New Delhi,Al-Essawi who has been trade and business minister in the Gaddafi government said: This council consists of 31 members chosen from different areas of Libya,and has been drawn from local councils.

When asked if he wants India to recognise the council as the legitimate representative of the Libyan people,Al-Essawi said,We want all countries to recognise the council. However,he added that he had not yet conveyed this to Indian officials in South Block so far.
