A 14-year-old student died while 15 others were seriously injured after the school bus they were travelling in turned turtle on Tuesday in Surat. The injured were shifted to different hospitals in Olpad and Surat. Three students undergoing treatment in Surat are reported to be critical. According to the details received,a school bus (GJ-5-Z-603) carrying around 35 students of DRJD School at Sayan village in Olpad taluka of Surat district,turned turtle near Parya village on Tuesday afternoon. The students were on their way home when the incident occurred. Several people gathered on the spot after learning about the incident and helped in rescuing the students. The bus driver escaped with minor injuries. Fifteen students in the age group of 14 to 17 years sustained injuries and were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital in Olpad taluka. Four students Shiv Desai (15),Dharmishta Ahir (16) Vivek Gosai (17),and Anandi Desai (14) were shifted to Mahavir Hospital in Surat. Anandi was later declared dead by doctors after primary treatment. Three others are still in a critical condition. On receiving the information about the incident,Olpad police rushed to Jeewan Raksha Hospital and Mahavir Hospital for investigation. A complaint in this connection was lodged with Olpad police station by a student,Vivek Gosain,who is a resident of Karamla village in Olpad taluka. Sub-Inspector R I Desai of Olpad police said: We have arrested the driver,Deepak Rathod,for reckless driving. The school bus was on its way from Sayan village to drop students at Karamla,Sandhyer village in Olpad taluka. The driver lost control as a result of which the bus turned turtle.
