The Kondhwa police on Friday arrested a criminal on police record for attacking and robbing a woman of Rs 50,000. The robber was handed over to the police by citizens who managed to catch hold of him while he was trying to flee with the bag.
A complaint was registered by Sunita Anil Kamble of Kubera Park who owns a milk distribution agency in Kondhwa.
As per her complaint, she and her husband were on their way to a bank in Wanawadi to deposit their daily collection of cash when one person attacked her from behind and snatched her bag containing Rs 50,000 cash.
Senior inspector Prasad Hasabnis of Kondhwa police station said, "The suspect has been identified as Anwar Iqbal Khan (29), who was involved in the murder and robbery of a security guard in Loni Kalbhor. When Kamble and her husband raised an alarm on seeing Khan trying to flee with the bag containing the cash, some alert citizens managed to catch hold of him and handed him to the police. All the cash has been recovered."
Dental programme in Lonavala
INHS Kasturi — the Naval Hospital at Lonavala — recently conducted a free dental health programme at NAB Lion's Home for Aging Blind, Khandala. Commodore P J Rangachari, station commander, Naval Base Lonavala inaugurated the camp stressed the need for dental health awareness. Surgeon Captain Ratna Mahendra, commanding officer, INHS Kasturi assured that all those requiring follow-up would be taken to the dental centre at INHS Kasturi within the next few days.
"Lt Cdr (D) CM Zameer Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the dental centre, INHS Kasturi gave a talk on common dental problems in the elderly and their prevention. Correct brushing method and oral hygiene was explained to all who were present. This basic dental outreach programme to the marginalised community will go a long way in improving their quality of life and health," a press release issued by INS Shivaji PRO said.
