A Female pilgrim was killed and four others seriously injured after a helicopter crash landed at Sangam near Amarnath shrine in South Kashmir Himalayas this morning.
According to A.R. Lone, Additional Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal who is also acting as yatra officer for regulating the yatra to Amarnath shrine on Baltal route, said that the helicopter being operated by Himalayan Aviation fell on the woman who was on way to the holy shrine on foot, killing her on the spot. The deceased has been identified as Kulla Gawie of Amla in Madhya Pradesh.
The injured included helipcopter’s pilot as well. All of them were shifted to hospital at Srinagar .
Though investigations were on into the matter, the crash landing was attributed to some technical fault.
There are nearly half a dozen helicopters operational between Baltal base camp to Amarnath shrine. These are being run by Deccan and Himalayan Airways, sources said, adding that chopper service to Amarnath was suspended after the incident.
