One lakh J&K youths to get jobs in five years,says Jairam

Under the scheme,youngsters will be given a minimum level of computer-oriented skills and each youth will be tracked for a period of one year after placement. A total amount of Rs 235 crore will be spent on the training and placement of the youth and so far 2431 have been fully trained in the first two batches while 2800 youth are undergoing training in 42 training centers spread across 19 districts in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator UT Shivraj V Patil assured all the youth who are working in Mohali and Chandigarh that their problems will be redressed at the earliest.

One of the problems they were facing was in getting accommodation. Patil said that the UT Administration has some vacant flats which would be given to them for some time on temporary basis. He said that there was a wide scope in tourism,hospitality and transport areas and youth should be trained accordingly,so that they should be easily adjusted in these fields.

Among others who were present on the occasion included Deputy Commissioner,Mohali,SSP,Mohali and Director,NIPER.

The first batch passed out in Srinagar on Dec 2011. As many as 588 candidates were trained and prepared for placement in the organized services sector. The second batch of beneficiaries completed its training and was placed between April and June 2012.

With J&K having a meagre services sector that could absorb the trained candidates,the majority were absorbed by the organized sector in Chandigarh,Punjab and the NCR.

Almost 70 per cent of the trained candidates were placed in the BPO and retail sector in Chandigarh and the NCR. Project-implementing agencies made detailed presentations about their work. Security related issues were stated to be a problem being faced,impeding the progress of the project.
