One more swine flu case was confirmed in Ahmedabad, while four suspected cases were reported on Monday. A man who had attended to Praveen Patel, the first victim of the pandemic in the state, tested positive with the virus. A nurse who had also treated the deceased is suspected to be a secondary transmission case.
Another girl from Gandhinagar and one from Pune are among the fresh suspected cases. Till date,15 people have tested positive with the H1N1 virus in the state, and eight patients are being treated in Ahmedabad Civil Hospital.
Chief Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting on Monday with the state Health Department officials to assess the action plan to control the pandemic in the state. The CM later updated Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad about the action plan.
A separate OPD has been set up at the Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. Apart from that,a communication centre for keeping tabs on probable swine flu cases,a helpline for citizens and a blog for technical discussion have been created as part of the action plan.
Azad has accepted a request made by the CM for 250-reagent medical kits and Tamiflu tablets. In a separate meeting held by state Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas,a decision was taken to rope in private hospitals and laboratories for treatment of swine flu cases.
While hospitals have been asked to create isolation wards that will be inspected and approved by Health Department officials, laboratories have been urged to come forward and apply for accreditation, which is required to conduct tests once the kits are available in the market.
