  • Hospitals, both private and public, continue to admit people with monsoon-related illnesses. In the space of 24 hours, 140 persons were admitted for fever and 39 for gastroenteritis. There was a suspected case of dengue, another of leptospirosis and 35 of malaria.

“As we said earlier, low-lying areas are prone to flooding even with the slightest amount of rain as it happened yesterday. We are trying to create a mechanism by which we will be able to prevent flooding completely in these areas; it will be a long-term solution. Meanwhile, 162 pumps are pumping out rainwater from the storm water drains to the sewerage drains, reducing the pressure on the drains,” said S S Shinde, joint municipal commissioner (disaster management).

Sunday began with clear skies but clouds formed by the evening, resulting in light showers. Similar weather conditions have been forecast for Monday.
