With the second merit list for admission to junior colleges out on Sunday, an hour later than the scheduled time, hundreds of jittery students who did not get any SMS from the Maharashtra Knowledge Corporation Ltd (MKCL), fearing they may have lost out, hit the website to double check.
“As the messages were sent simultaneously, the network may have jammed and some students may not have received them,” said S Chitale, member of the online admission committee.
Most colleges will be putting up the merit list on Monday.
There were some other complaints, too. Dishir Dhayani of Ghatkopar said his daughter, despite scoring 90 per cent, got selected to a small night college in Andheri and that too in the commerce course for which she had not applied. “We had already secured admission to SIES college, Sion after the first merit list and were hoping for a better college in the second round. There is definitely some problem. I will complain to the MKCL on Monday.”
Most students are likely to get admission after the second merit list, said VK Wankhede, deputy director of education, Mumbai region.
“After the second round, many students will make use of the betterment option to cancel admissions and seek admission to colleges higher on their preference list. This will create vacant seats. In all such colleges, we have asked them to accept 12 students each instead of 10 they were accepting. There will be no shortage of seats,” said Wankhede.
