Online hiring activity by Indian companies has risen around 42 per cent in the first six months this year,led by an upswing in the job market amid improving business confidence,recruitment services firm Monster has said.
The Monster Employment Index,a monthly gauge based on a review of employer job opportunities from a large selection of online job sites,climbed by 42 per cent to 135 in June this year as compared to 95 in December 2009.
“Longer term six-month growth trends in several large industries and occupational groups suggest an overall upswing in hiring,which is encouraging for current job seekers,” Monster manging director (India,Middle East and Southeast Asia) Sanjay Modi said.
Online hiring in the IT industry during January-June period registered 66 per cent growth,was the strongest,followed by the sector comprising of engineering,cement,construction,iron and steel,which grew by 48 per cent.
The Advertising and Public Relations industry was the worst affected as it declined by around 13 per cent in the first six months.
In the month-on month comparison,the job index edged up by two per cent to 135 in June from 132 in May as online demand for jobs continued to expand.
During June online employment rose in six of the index’s 27 industry sectors,including education,which grew by nine per cent,followed by online opportunities in production and manufacturing (P&M) sector,which increased by seven per cent.
“Both sectors (Education and P&M) now appear to have gained steady momentum after experiencing sluggish growth rates in the previous months,” the report added.
Meanwhile,online hiring in the banking,finance and insurance sector continued its gradual rise with three per cent growth in June over the previous month.
In contrast,the real estate sector slid by three per cent in June,while maintaining one of the steadiest three and six-month job growth rates at 52 per cent and 47 per cent,respectively.
Meanwhile,online job availability in June in the IT sector saw a decline of 6 points for the first time since January 2010,while still keeping the half-yearly growth positive.
Among the 13 cities monitored by the Index,Kolkata saw 5 per cent increase in June,while Chandigarh saw steepest decline of nine per cent.
Delhi NCR witness a rise of one per cent in hiring activity in June,while Mumbai saw an increase of 3 per cent in the reviewed month.
