Online job demand rises in October: Monster jobs

Online hiring activity in India improved further in October driven by recruitments in sectors such as engineering, automotive and telecom, according to a survey.

The Monster.com's employment index, a monthly gauge of the country's online job demand, rose by 3 points (up 2.27 per cent) to 135 in October from 132 in September.

This is the second consecutive month of improvement in online hiring activity as the month of September had witnessed an increase of six points from 126 points in August.

On an year-on-year basis, the index level has risen by 13 per cent from 119 points recorded in October 2011, jobs portal Monster.com said.

"The double digit gains in the Monster Employment Index reflect the confidence of Indian businesses in the current economy," Monster.com Managing Director (India/Middle-East/ South East Asia) Sanjay Modi said.

A sectoral analysis showed that hiring activity witnessed good growth in areas including BPO/ITeS, engineering, automotive, telecom, oil and gas, healthcare, travel, media and real estate.

"Major sectors like IT, engineering, automotive, telecom, healthcare, and education have shown positive year on year growth," Modi added.

The employment index is an indicator of monthly online demand for jobs. It is based on a real-time review of employer job opportunities culled from a large, representative selection of online career outlets, including Monster India.

In October, online job availability improved in as much as 24 of the index's 27 industry sectors. It declined in the IT and garments category and remained unchanged in logistics segment.

The month saw an increase in demand for technically qualified professionals in customer service, engineering, finance, senior management, marketing and communication, healthcare, logistics, hospitality, legal and arts/creative

field.

There was, however, a fall in demand of professionals in telecom and sales and business development field.

Of the 13 cities under review, Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Kochi, Baroda, Coimbatore and Jaipur saw an improvement in online demand for jobs.
