Only 25 per cent of the total truck drivers in the state are aware of the AIDS, says a study conducted by an NGO Rising Youth Association. Gurinder Chahal, president of the NGO, said: “The study found that 75 per cent of truckers visited commercial sex workers, but only 10 per cent used condoms. Worse, barely 25 per cent of them were aware of AIDS and its ramifications.” Among all the high-risk groups, truck drivers are followed by migrant labourers and domestic servants. The study revealed that 67 per cent of the truck drivers were married and 43 per cent of them indulged in commercial sex.
