Adi Godrej, scion of 115-yr old co, biography bares the 'enigma'

Successfully spearheading one of India's oldest companies is no mean feat and now a new biography sketches out the dynamic and enigmatic life of Adi Godrej - the industrialist behind the 115-year-old Godrej Group.

"Adi Godrej: A Biography" reveals details of the chairman of the Rs 20,000 annual turnover company. The book set to be on stands in December is one of the early titles to be published under the new Shobhaa De Books imprint, says publisher Penguin.

This is the second in the series of books whose subject has been chosen by De with a biography on Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor already scheduled to be out the same month.

The book chronicles Adi's growing-up years, his university days at Boston and MIT and later on to his joining the family business at the age of 21 years and turning the company around.

His marriage to Parmeshwar as well as the articulation of Godrej's 3x3 strategy (expansion of three product categories in three continents) and the recent 10x10 (to grow ten times in ten years) plan to Adi's philanthropic activities and his hobbies have been detailed out in the book.

"He is not somebody you can mess around with. He knows what he is going to do, how far he is going to go," says Amitabh Bachchan on the cover of the book that has been penned by Mumbai based journalist Nandini Bhaskaran.

Currently Adi Godrej lives in Mumbai with his wife Parmeshwar and three children Tanya, Nisa and Pirojsha.

The Shobha De imprint of Penguin includes celebrity memoirs, guides and biographies - with a focus on lifestyle, business, cinema and commercial fiction.

Several personalities from fashion, film and lifestyle world have been lined up for books under the imprint.
