An opinion poll conducted by NDTV channel in Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, results of which were released on Wednesday, showed that the NDA will sweep Bihar and retain Madhya Pradesh in the Lok Sabha elections.

According to the opinion poll results, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA in Bihar is likely to bag 30 Lok Sabha seats while the alliance of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan will get the remaining 10 seats of the state.

If these predictions come true,it will mark a complete reversal of the political fortunes of the Lalu-led UPA combine in the state that had won 29 seats in 2004. The NDA won only 11 seats from the state last time. The opinion polls projected that 63 per cent of people preferred JD(U) leader and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as against 25 per cent approval rating for rival Lalu. The opinion poll projected five per cent upswing for the NDA during the coming polls,to 42 per cent against 37 per cent in 2004.

According to the opinion poll for Madhya Pradesh, the channel projected that though BJP Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan remained popular with an approval rating of 67 per cent, the BJP was likely to go down from its tally of 25 seats in 2004 to 19 seats this time.

The channel projected that this was due to the reducing difference in the vote shares between the BJP and Congress in the state that has 29 Lok Sabha seats. According to the poll results, the Congress is likely to witness 5 per cent vote swing in its favour from 34 per cent in 2004.
