Dimsums are a must-try at the newly opened Dimsumbros, but the menu packs in a lot more

An overpowering aroma of lemon grass invites you into Dimsumbros,a new restaurant at Ambience Mall,Gurgaon. The wooden floors, bare brick walls, evenly spaced out seating and muted colours and lighting give the restaurant a calm and surreal ambiance. Once seated on sofa chairs (which are well-cushioned,so much so that we sink into them),we are served complimentary jasmine tea in small glazed ceramic cups to aid digestion.

With the restaurant name dedicated to the Chinese tea-time snack,we cannot not try some of the 37 varieties of dimsums. The dumplings come in threes, and the minimum number of baskets you can order are four (Rs 750). We order the tiger prawn and enoki mushroom, chicken sui mai,Thai chilli pork dumplings and chicken glutinous rice lotus wrap parcel.

Despite using very succulent prawns, the mild flavour of the enoki mushrooms could still be traced, and the sui mai dumplings have a wholesome chicken filling. The chilli pork dumplings are a little too spicy, but the star dumplings are definitely the ones delicately wrapped in the lotus leaves. The dimsums have a barely-there trace of the essence and aroma of the lotus leaves, and are properly wrapped around sticky rice and slightly spiced chicken. However, because there are three of each kind of dimsums, sharing becomes a mathematical debate between two of us.

Stuffed from our first course,we contemplate skipping to the dessert. But,the main course is tempting and, despite the warning signals from our bellies,we order udon noodles with mixed meat stir fried, with Chinese chives, pakchoi and scallions in xo sauce (Rs 375) and coconut sticky rice with chunks of chicken cooked with Thai ginger, lemon grass, bird eye chili,in Thai curry style (Rs 425).

The slippery soy udon noodles along with equal amount of meat and vegetables,is sufficient for two meals and bursts with flavours in each bite. Even better,is the Thai curry-style coconut rice, which immediately transports us to a roadside resort on the beaches of Krabi or Phuket. An even mixture of ginger and coconut, the rice is savoury but retains the sharpness of the bird eye chilli.

With our stomachs full to bursting point,we decide against desserts.
