The abduction of Malkangiri district collector and a junior engineer by Maoists has paralysed government functioning including the census exercise in the district,official sources said. Malkangiri district unit of All Orissa Non-Gazetted Officers' Coordination Committee today said unless the duo were immediately released,they would not perform any work including that related to the census. In a memorandum submitted to additional district magistrate Sundarlal Sil here,the Committee said all government offices,schools,colleges and courts in the district would remain closed indefinitely as a mark of solidarity with the kidnapped duo. District Collector R V Krishna and junior engineer Pabitra Majhi were kidnapped by Maoists during their visit to Chitrakonda in the district on Wednesday evening. The ADM said the memorandum was forwarded to the state government. Meanwhile,the district headquarter observed a spontaneous bandh for the second day today with all the shops and business establishments remaining closed though no call for shut-down was given by anyone. A large number of people today took out a rally here demanding safe release of the collector in which people from all walks of life participated.
