On Monday evening,seven persons died when the bus they were travelling in was swept away from a bridge over the Besalia stream,in between Gania and Dasapalla villages in Nayagarh district. Seven bodies have been recovered,while local youths rescued 22 passengers of the bus which was going from Bhubaneswar to Daspalla. The state government has announced a compensation of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of those killed and free treatment to the injured.

Meanwhile,three persons were swept away when they were crossing the swollen Terumadi river in Bandhugaon area of Koraput district. Two persons,including a fisherman,drowned in Ramiala rivulet in Tigiria area of Keonjhar district,while two others,including a schoolteacher,were swept away in Kandhamal district. On Monday,a 16-year-old girl was killed when a wall collapsed in Ganjam district.

The water level in rivers like Mahanadi,Vamsadhara,and Baitarani has been showing a rising trend. The road link between Bhanjanagar in Ganjam district and Bhubaneswar was cut off as floodwater breached the roads near Nuagaon in Bhanjanagar.
