Thirty-five-year-old Manjulata Sahu has half a dhoti to cover herself since the floods washed away her house and made her homeless in Orissa, a week ago.

Manjulata and her neighbour Anadi Sahu (55) divided a five-foot dhoti to cover themselves as their clothes were lost in the floods.

"We stand naked, hungry and homeless," says 55-year-old Anadi, whose thatched house was swept away by the waters on the night of September 19. Similar was the case of many others who lost everything, including clothes.

Babita Sahu (22) preferred not to come out of the polythene tent on the river embankment, which was crowded with the flood victims, because of her dirty clothes.

"Our house and everything was swept away. The administration has not come to our rescue," she told from inside the tent.

Patkura's woman sarpanch Ahalya expressed helplessness.

"What can I do? A large number of people including women in my panchayat are facing the same situation. Where do I find clothes for them?"

Similar tales were heard in Patkura area in the Mahanadi delta, which has a population of over 20 lakh people and was also ravaged by the deluge.

Like the Sahus, a large number of people in this part of coastal Orissa lost their clothes, houses and other belongings as the Chitratopla, a branch of the mighty Mahanadi river, broke through the embankments close to their village of Jagannathpur-Patana in Kendrapara district.

No time for youBy: N Guru | 26-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Well to all the people who are suffering because of the devastating floods , the hindus of Orissa have got more important things to do than save their fellow countryman, namely kill the christians and destroy the chruches and the police are busy pretending to provide security to the christians and the churches , not forgetting the chief minister, who is also pretending to be busy solving the problems of the state. Thus, all you poor miserable flood ravaged people, it is sad but, kindly do not look for any help neither from the useless hindus nor the state. God will certainly help you if you help yourself.
RSS will helpBy: Rajesh | 25-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward Send money to RSS or Bajrang Dal or VHP. They will use it to destroy Christians. Look, even when part of Orissa is under water, they continue burning houses of Christians and contniue killing them. Instead making some offering to the rain god, they are making offerings to the fire god!
selfish indiaBy: k.Srinivas | 25-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward While we can sympathise with the affected people, we should relaise that this is because of mindless destruction of environement by the human beings that is taking such a monstrous proportion. what more mankind has in store in the coming months, only future can say. atleast, let this be an eye opener for our planners, engineers
disasterBy: reader | 25-Sep-2008 Reply | Forward wow...we are surprised by the comments of some good indians here that they are requesting sangh to help the poor. Unfortunately charity doesnt run in their blood and they are only good for political gains. These poor people can get help from only christians and missionaries. However we hope that they wont look to these people from orissa which is place of hatred! The destiny of such places are written in the Holy books !
