Orissa government has ordered closure of operations in as many as 41 mines in Sundargarh district after statewide vigilance raids conducted in the wake of mines scam in the state.

Orissa government has ordered closure of operations in as many as 41 mines in Sundargarh district after statewide vigilance raids conducted in the wake of mines scam in the state.

Officials sources said here today that 41 mines out of 58 operating in the Sundargarh district have been served closure notices by the government for allegedly violating stipulated rules.

Altogether 25 mines under Rourkela mines circle have been served closure notices while 16 mines in Koida mines circle were asked to close down,they said.

All 41 mines owners have violated environmental and pollution control rules,raising of mines in unleased area violating government approved plans and rules to protect the forest land and not maintaining statutory documents for mining operations,the sources said.
